Lets Begin:
Open the image you unzipped, which is the Rose. Hold your shift key, hit your D key and duplicate your image, close the original as you may want to create more roses. Turn off all the layers, except the bottom layer, bottom stems. Effects, plugins, Fantastic Machines, Paint Engine. Find the setting Borg, and apply.
Open the next layer above, lightbud. Select all, select float. Set your foreground color to #9A5F07. Get your spray tool, set the size to 30, the shape to round, hardness 28, opacity 100, step 25, density 50, spray color along the bottom of the bud. Then take your retouch tool, set the second tab to Lighten RGB. Change the settings to round, 25, hardness 0, opacity 100, step 25, density 100. Lighten the top. Change the Lighten RGB to Darken RGB. round, size 5, hardness 0, opacity 24, step 12, density 100, create a dark line when the head of the bud meets the stem.
Merge these two layers together. You will merge each layer as you complete the layer.
For each layer, open the layer, select all, select float. I prefer not to repeat this, so please remember. Now is the time to decide what color you want your rose to be. For my demonstration, I am going to create a friendship rose and make the color yellow. I selected the color, Hue 29, saturation 255. I then went to Colors, Colorize and changed the Hue to 29 and the saturation to 255. Then applied this color to my large rose bud. Select your new rosebud color with your dropper, which looks like an eye drop. Then select a color in the same hue but of a darker value. I chose Hue 29, saturation 253. Take your paintbrush, size 4 and paint a line and a few strokes at the tip of the rose bud as follows.
Effects, plugins, paint engine setting sleep, apply. Take your retouch tool, lighten RGB and add a bit of lightener to the top of the rose. Merge visable.
Open the next layer. Remember, select, select all, select float. Color, colorize this smaller rose bud. Take your spray paint tool, and add some darker color around the tip. Then effects, paint engine, same setting, apply. Select none. Add a touch of lightener to the top. Merge layers.
Open the next layer and...~s~. Change your foreground color to #376353 and your background color to #D39001. These steps apply to all layers of leaves. Decide where to darken each leaf. Where to lighten each leaf. How to do this is to invision where your light is coming from. I suggest placing the light at the top left. The part of the leaf facing away from the light should be sprayed with the blue color. The part of the leaf facing the light should be sprayed with the gold, as this is the part of the leaf receiving the greater amount of light. Make sense? ~s~ When you have added the darken RGB, lighten RGB and the two colors of spray, go to effects, plugins, paint engine, same settings, apply. Then add more lighten and darkening values if needed. Merge visable.
Open the next layer above. This leaf I left plain, so I simply merged layers visable and continued.
The next layer contains the rest of the leaves. Apply to this layer the same effects as you did to the first layer of leaves. Don't forget to merge visable.
Open the next layer. This is the main stem of the rose. The first thing to do is to tryand create a few thorns. Take your retouch tool. Second tab, push. Size about 4, round and pull color out along the stem. Then select all, select float. Spray color #9A5F07 along the top, effects, plugins, paint engine, borg setting. Then take the lighten rgb tool, and lighten the top branch. Effects, paint engine, oil1, apply. Merge visable.
On the next layer, is another leaf, again, leave it plain. Merge visable.
On the next layer, is the tiny rose bud. Colorize the bud. Spray paint darkening this bud more than the other buds. Effects, plugins, paint engine, sleep. Lighten the top slightly. Here is what I have so far.
Open the next layer. Using the retouch darken go all around the outer edges of the stems and leaves and across the bases of bud as you did in the first bud above. Then using the lighten rgb, lighten the centers of the bud and stems on the top. Merge visable.
Open the next layer which is another bud stem. Apply the same effects as the layer you just finished. Resize the brush as needed. Effects, paint engine borg. Merge visable.
We are now ready to do the rose. I suggest opening all the above layers so that you have an idea as to how to lighten and darken the petals. Start at the bottom petal. Colorize the petal. If your using a light color for your rose, I suggest darkening by spraying the darker color. You can still use the lighten rgb, but decrease the opacity to 30. Darken the centers of the petals, then effects paint engine sleep. Then lighten the tips. Do this for each petal on each layer. You cannot marge visable. So do each petal by working from the bottom layer up.
When you get to the last layer, after applying the colorize. Color, color adjust, brightness and contrast. Brightness 18, contrast 27. Blur, gaussian blur radius 2.00. Merge visable. I suggest saving this as a tube.
My finished Friendship Rose.
